Filariasis Of The Breast
نویسنده
چکیده
Filariasis is a major public health problem in tropical countries. The disease is endemic in large areas of India, Africa and parts of Asia. Lymphatic filariasis in humans is commonly caused by Wuchereria bancrofti and Brugia malayi. Extranodal filariasis is a rare entity, and the breast is an uncommon site for filariasis. Patients commonly present with an underlying lump and may occasionally mimic malignancy. Microfilariae (MF) and adult worms have been detected in tissue sections and needle aspirates from the breast, and aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the disease. We present an unusual case of Filariasis of the breast present ing as a breast lump with axi l lary lymphadenopathy and clinically simulating a breast cancer.

متن کاملLymph Node Enlargement in Neck Filariasis as a Rare Cause: A Case Report
Lymphatic filariasis is endemic to tropical countries and is the most common cause of acquired lymphedema in the world. Wuchereria bancrofti is the main etiological agent responsible. While the presentation of filariasis in limbs is common, isolated presentation as a single enlarged lymph node in the neck is very rare. We describe a 48-year-old Indian woman, who presented with a hard lymph node...

BACKGROUND Despite increased immigration to the United States from endemic areas, the diagnosis of microfilariasis in this country remains infrequent. This disease may occasionally present as a breast mass, in the absence of other clinical findings. CASE We report an unusual case of Wuchereria bancrofti diagnosed in a pregnant woman by breast fine-needle aspiration (FNA) and discuss the clini...

متن کاملParasites in fine needle breast aspirates--assessment of host tissue response.
Parasites in the human breast are uncommon but not rare. Cysticercus and filariasis in fine needle breast aspirates have been documented and their cytomorphology is well characterised. However, the host tissue response to these parasites and the factors responsible for their initiation are not clear. Over a 21 year period, 28 cases of breast parasites (16 cases of cysticercus and 12 of filarias...
